Our sense of touch plays an essential role in human interaction and as a means to display our emotions. Touching is a way for us humans to convey comfort, especially for a mother to her infant.  When we greet friends we haven't seen for a while, we usually do so with a shaking of hands or a big hug. Using our sense of touch to display affection and other emotions is our way of non verbally communicating with one another.

So, how does culture influence how we express ourselves?

Rules of touch vary from culture to culture. There are certain display rules in every culture that deems an display of emotion in public as appropriate or inappropriate depending on the circumstances. While we might not see a couple holding hands or hugging out in public as offending, other people from another culture might find it obscene. 

In this E-folio, I will be emphasizing about the importance of touch, the different rules regarding touch in different cultures and how we can be more culturally aware in today's multicultural society.
